In this review, the author suggests making a very simple universal template-conductor for drilling dowels with his own hands. You can make it from wooden blocks or pieces of plywood.

With the help of this home-made device, it is possible to drill holes in workpieces of different thicknesses without problems. The universal template-conductor can be used when gluing boards into a shield or assembling furniture.

For the manufacture of this device you will need a pair of metal plates, three wooden bars, steel or aluminum bushings for the diameter of dowels, fasteners.

The main stages of work

Next, in metal plates, it is necessary to drill three holes for the M5 bolts. The distance between the holes is 45 mm (but in your case the dimensions may be different).

At the next stage, two holes need to be drilled in a central wooden block. Steel or aluminum bushings with an internal diameter of 8 mm (or another) must be pressed into them.

On the edges of the central bar, you need to make small grooves. Then the metal plates are screwed. The grooves are needed so that the mounting bolts that secure the plates do not protrude.

Then it remains only to screw the plate to the remaining two wooden blocks. Now the fixture is completely ready.
