For many novice welders, cast iron welding is a real headache that gradually develops into a migraine. What methods do not use only: wrap a copper wire on an electrode, heat the workpiece with a gas torch, etc.
To qualitatively weld parts made of cast iron, you will have to spend much more time than when welding ordinary metal. This is due to the fact that you first need to heat up the workpiece, and after welding, allow it to cool slowly in the sand. Moreover, there is no guarantee that the seam will turn out to be of high quality.
However, the author offers a simpler and faster method of welding cast iron, which can be used in garage conditions. But for this you will need to have a welding semiautomatic device on hand.
Features of welding cast iron in the garage
In general, special cast iron electrodes have been developed for welding cast iron, which are more expensive than conventional electrodes, so they are practically used in everyday life - it is not profitable. However, the author claims that the semiautomatic device will turn out no worse.
When welding cast iron semi-automatic (however, like an electrode), certain rules must be observed. Firstly, edge cutting is required. At the same time, the wider the cutting itself, the better.
Despite the fact that the author demonstrates how it is possible to brew cast iron to cold, in order to obtain a better result, it is better to heat the workpiece with a gas burner.
After cleaning the weld with a grinder, we get a very good result. Moreover, the seam itself is practically invisible.
